  • Bloating, belching, burning
  • flatulence immediately after meals

  • Iron deficiency
  • Itching around the rectum
  • Nauseas after taking supplements
  • Multiple food allergies
  • Undigested food in the stool
  • Upper digestive tract gassiness
  • Weak, peeling, and cracked fingernails

  • Addison’s disease
  • Asthma
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Celiac Disease
  • Dermatitis
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Eczema
  • Gallbladder disease

Dr. Murray and Dr. Pizzorno providing some guidelines for using Betaine HCl as a supplement for hypochlorhydria and I created a dose schedule for Gastro Plus based on their research.

Begin by taking 1 capsule of Gastro Plus (520mg Betaine HCL) at your next large meal. If this does not aggravate your symptoms or cause a feeling of warmth in the stomach, add an additional tablet at the next meal. You can continue to increase dosage up to 2-3 tablets a meal.

A feeling of warmth in the stomach means that you have taken too many tablets for that meal, and you need to take reduce the dose for that meal size. It is a good idea to try the larger dose again at another meal to make sure that is was the HCL that caused the warmth, and not something else.

After you have found the largest dose you can take at your large meals without feeling any stomach warmth, maintain that dose at all meals of a similar size. You will need to take less at smaller meals.

As your stomach begins to regain the ability to produce the amount of HCl needed to properly digest you food, you will notice the warm feeling again and will have to cut down the dose level.
